Mykrox (Metolazone)

Mykrox is used to treat fluid retention (edema) and swelling that is caused by congestive heart failure, kidney disease, or other medical conditions.

Mykrox is also used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the work load of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. These problems may be less likely to occur if blood pressure is controlled.

Mykrox is a thiazide diuretic (water pill). It reduces the amount of water in the body by increasing the flow of urine, which helps to lower blood pressure.

This medicine is available only with your doctor’s prescription.

Moduretic (Amiloride and Hydrochlorothiazide)Moduretic is used for treating fluid retention (edema) and high blood pressure. It may be used alone or with other medicines. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Moduretic is a diuretic (water pill) and is a combination of a potassium-sparing diuretic (amiloride) and a thiazide diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide). It works by making the kidneys eliminate sodium (salt) and water from the body, which helps to lower blood pressure. The amiloride component helps minimize potassium loss.

Minitran (Nitroglycerin)Minitran is used for preventing chronic chest pain caused by heart disease. It also may be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Minitran is a nitrate. It works by relaxing (widening) blood vessels. Chest pain occurs when the heart needs more oxygen than it can get. Relaxing blood vessels allows blood to flow more easily. This reduces the heart’s workload and the amount of oxygen needed by the heart.

Minipress (Prazosin)Minipress is used for treating high blood pressure or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Minipress is an alpha-blocker. It works by causing the blood vessels and the muscles around the urethra (the tube leading out of the bladder) to relax. This helps to lower blood pressure and to improve urinary symptoms associated with enlargement of the prostate (BPH).
