Latest news and information on Adderall
Adderall is a central nervous system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control.
Adderall is used to treat narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Adderall may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Most important: Do not take Adderall if you have used an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), or selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam) within the past 14 days. Serious, life-threatening side effects can occur if you take Adderall before the MAO inhibitor has cleared from your body. Do not use this medication if you are allergic to amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, or if you have hardened arteries (arteriosclerosis), heart disease, moderate to severe high blood pressure (hypertension), overactive thyroid, glaucoma, severe anxiety or agitation, or a history of drug or alcohol addiction. Some stimulants have caused sudden death in children and adolescents with serious heart problems or congenital heart defects. Before taking Adderall, tell your doctor if you have any type of heart problems.
Long-term use of this medicine can slow a child’s growth. Tell your doctor if the child using Adderall is not growing or gaining weight properly.
Adderall is a drug of abuse and may be habit-forming. Keep track of the amount of medicine used from each new bottle. You should be aware if anyone is using your medicine improperly or without a prescription. Using this medication improperly can cause death or serious side effects on the heart.

Good stuff I’ve been using this over a year and it works well for me. None of the wacky side effects from other ADHD meds I’ve taken. The only bad thing about it is that I can never remember to take my mid-day dose. I tried the extended release version, but it caused general weirdness for me.

NOTHING IS PERFECT. I also have taken Lamictal 200 concurrently for more than 3 years.
Adderall does not improve my mood.
Where Concerta was great for energy, initiative, apathy and more important “jump-starting” (Adderall here is a total failure), it did not control one of the symptoms: Impulsivity, either verbal or behavioural and this is the ADHD issue on which I put most of the blame for many of my psychological issues:
1- Lack of respect from my peers: Who will take seriously somebody who is constantly (and annoyingly) blurting ideas that have not been wel thought?
2- Mostly, because of the previous reason, I may have been deemed an idiot and went through a lot of bullying at school despite being usually the tallest and probably stronger.
3- Loss of friends and friendly relations for failing to control spewing what was in my mind after I analyzed (my way) the behavior or problem of the person.
5- Reckless driving. I would decide a risky move in a split second (example: to pass a car that had previously gotten in front of me) and later would realize how stupid I had been. I knew it was stupid but only would realize of the fact AFTER I had made the mistake, never before.
4- And as a conclusion, I did not reach the intelectual level of education that I know I could have reached, what translated into a lower income from work.
Adderall has been perfect for this and I was surprised and my co-workers noted the change. BUT it does not help with any of the other symptoms and on top of it, makes me really slow doing anything.
Definitely we are all wired differently!!!

Just started First dose 9/12/2006. First prescription cost $188 for 30 days. Supposedly generic is much cheaper, cost will drop to $5 next time if generic is used.
Day 1-2, 1@ 10mg. Wow what a change, I can actually get work done now. Been taking antidepressants for 20 yrs. ADD may have been the issue all along. No side effects, even as an appetite depressant.
Day 2-3, 2 @20mg. No noticeable change from 1 so far. I just feel more positive about things now that I can tackle them. ED symptoms from discontinued Effexor now gone. Black cloud is gone.
Up to 20mg, still can concentrate, but still pretty stressed. Going back to shrink today.
Oops 20 mg may be too much. Has some serious afternnon weakness, no improvement over 10 mg./day going back to one a day. Went weekend without as per Dr. No side effects other than back to usual sloth days.

Strait A’s. Hey what’s up?
I have been on Adderall for a while now and I was on Ritalin for about 10 years before this but the Adderall is sooo much better. I stopped taking Ritalin because I hated how it made me not talk and I think it messed up my memory to because I have a very hard time recalling… practically anything really. (I can’t remember very much from my childhood or even my early high school years.) Looking back going off it was a mistake though cause I dropped out of high school and did nothing good with my life for like 3 years.
Last December when I finally decided to get my GED I knew I was going to need a little help so I Adderall prescribed because I had tried it before and it works pretty great. I ended up doing better than 98% of the other people who took the test that month and I didn’t even study. I have done really well in all my classes since then and to be honest if I was not on AD I probably wouldn’t even have showed up to them.
Bad things:
It does give me headaches which (instead of getting used to them like I did with Ritalin) I have been combating with Aleve and Aspirin. I have super low motivation when I am off it, but that’s nothing new. I have always had super low motivation when I wasn’t on a stimulant.
It makes me eat less but I don’t really care. I would rather be thin and excel than be a fat failure. I’m 21 anyway so it’s not like I’m due for too many more growth spurts. I wish there was a way to prolong the effectiveness without those stupid capsules. They give me a wicked headache and anyway they are not even half as effective as the tabs. I also wish the tabs were gel coated like the capsules are. Taking these pills makes me gag. (That is why I gave only a 5.)
Sadly I have built up a considerable tolerance to this medication. Back when I first started taking it a pill would last like 6 hours but now I get 2-3. I’ll probably have my dosage doubled when I start going to school full time. An ex girlfriend of min

Effective, But Care Should Be Taken… Adderall has been a god send for me both in my academic and professional life’s. Having been diagnosed with ADHD at a young age, I have had the ‘opportunity’ to experience the gambit of remedial drugs available for treatment of ADD/ADHD on the American market. For me, I have found a combination of Adderall and Dexedrine to be the most effective means of calming my behaviour and inattentiveness.
While Adderall (in combination with the dexedrine) has proven to be the most effective med. for ME, the side effects have been an inability to sleep (if taken to late, which for me means after 5pm), and more importantly a slight psychological addiction which I have to remind myself about and which is obviously a significant downside. The latter has been most apparent when I have been ‘denied’ the ability to access my meds for what ever reason; the result of which have usually taken the shape of severe mood swings and agitation. i am still not sure if this is a result of the psychological addiction (of which I am convinced I have at least a mild case of) or ‘withdrawal’.
In any case, while this drug has been extremely beneficial to me, I have also had to learn to be careful with it.

It works. But there are side effects. Adderall XR was a great solution for my recently diagnosed AD/HD. It makes me a more normal person to be around, a better friend, and a better driver. That said, it gives me some serious cotton mouth, which combined with making you feel like you have to pee more often can be a pain in the ass. Basically, keep a water bottle around and always know where the bathroom is. Oh, and I’m not sure how common this is, but it also makes me TIRED. Sometimes it’s practically a sedative for me (strange as that seems)–I’ve never experienced any sort of “stimulation” on Adderall. Also, sometimes I feel like it kind of flattens my emotions (although as someone with acute anxiety problems, that really is a plus).
Update: Adderall WILL make your stomach HURT. It is a guaranteed that if I take it I will experience some sort of discomfort at some point in the day. This is a tradeoff I don’t mind when it comes to actually getting stuff done. Taking it with food can help.

I’ve struggled with ADD my entire life but my parents were totally against medicating me (thank you mom and dad) Instead they made an effort to get me help from tutors and personal coaches that taught me good organizational and study habits which helped a bit. I struggled all through out my 6 years of college and now at 26, moving into the ranks of working for myself and taking on several projects, I could really use some help. My buddy gave me some adderall and I probably got more work done in 2 weeks than my 6 years of college- mainly because I neither ate nor slept for days at time. I also found that I was able to pop these like skittles with frightening ease. I couldn’t see taking this medication daily as I wouldn’t risk my physical and psychological well-being for any amount of work or money. I believe this should be used as a last resort. One thing I have learned is to observe my work habits while on adderall vs. when I’m not and try to mimic those behaviors daily. This drug is certainly a tool for success but I feel that it shouldn’t be used as a way of living.

Hi,
I have a quick question. I WAS on adderall salts for a few years. It was suggested SEVERAL times the xr version was better. MY psychiatrist COULD NOT GET APPROVAL FOR IT. They DEMANDED I try generic Dexedrine er. I had no problem with that. My ONLY problem is when i 1st take it in the morning. It takes HOURS to kick in (for whatever reason… former adderall salts? new med?. My psychiatrist is wonderful. He actually suggested possibly using Dexedrine er in the morning with 1 Adderal salt as soon as I wake up.
The problem. He is not COMPLETELY sure they can be combined. From my research, it SEEMS they can be, but ALL the answers I come across are vague. Can you tell me for sure…If the two could be used in such a manner? I would appreciate any help. His solurion sounds great to me, and since the drugs are 76% the same, it seems as though this should be possible.
Thank you in advance for your time
Joe Marchione
