Diphenhydramine HCL helps me sleep I used generic Sominex (diphenhydramine HCL) for sleep for many years – sometimes in conjunction with Lorazepam (Ativan). It worked very well. I no longer use it because I don’t want to get dependent on antihistamines, which also dry out your mucous membranes.
