My 4 year old was given this medication for the relief of extreme itching and dry skin. Dr said it was excema. He is also EXTREMELY hyperactive and even though too young to be formally diagnosed, very ADHD! He started having trouble paying attension and sitting still in school. He was ALWAYS antsy and just couldn't keep his hands to himself. He was like a perpetual motor! Not ever hearing about this medication, I didn't even think to research it until tonight. It has been one week since he has been on it I have noticed a HUGE decrease in his hyperactivity but thought nothing of it until his teacher contacted me and asked me what we were doing differently at home. I thought back and could only attribute it to the hydroxyzine. Once I started really thinking about it, he has been a completely different child-much calmer, more focused, etc... Now, I have researched it on my own and see that it is somewhat as a sedative. Not sure how long this can be taken for, but it has worked wonders on this busy little 4 year old! Oh, and he doesnt itch anymore either!

I have been on pain medication for almost ten years because chronic of back pain. As a result it has been very hard on my stomach. I have constant nausea. My doctor put me on hydroxyzine and I had great results. The down side is the medication makes me extremely sleepy. I had a very serious automobile accident as a result. We are pretty sure the medication caused me to black out. Just a word of caution to other patients that use hydroxyzine.

hydroxyzine for Anxiety: Really did not do much for anxiety or sleep for me personally. I do have a fairly high sedation tolerance however.

hydroxyzine for Anxiety: This medication does help with my anxiety, but after about an hour I'm so tired. I have trouble staying awake, and then I sleep on and off for half the day. On a better note though it does help me control my anxiety attacks.

hydroxyzine for Pruritus: Relieves the "under the skin" itch. One tab before bed for the last two years. Stop for three days and then need it again.
